Secretary General
A Message of Welcome

From the Desk of the Secretary-General
MLRITMUN 2025 | 7th Edition

Dear Delegate,
Take a deep breath.

Because I know exactly where you are right now. The nervous energy, the constant doubts, the fear of “what if I mess up?” I’ve been there. In fact, I’ve lived there.

When I first stepped into my first Model UN, I was just a kid in 8th grade, walking into a room full of strangers who spoke like seasoned diplomats, debated like lawyers, and commanded confidence I didn’t even know existed. I didn’t know the rules, I didn’t know the jargon, all I knew was that this was going to be hard. And it was.

I started with the toughest conferences. I stumbled. I froze mid-speech. I walked out of committee rooms wondering if I even belonged there. But here’s the thing about walls: when you’re backed against one, you don’t retreat.

"You break the whole goddamn thing down."

Conference by conference, speech by speech, I grew. I learned how to listen before I spoke, how to fight when I had to, and how to stand my ground when the room thought otherwise. Slowly, I stopped competing to survive and started competing to win. And when I won my first award, I realized something Harvey Specter once said:

“I don’t get lucky. I make my own luck.”

I competed against people twice my age, with double my experience, and I still walked away with victories, not because I was the smartest person in the room, but because I refused to quit.

And then came college. MLRIT became my home, and MLRITMUN became my battlefield. I served as the Deputy Secretary-General for the 6th Edition, and that experience changed me. It showed me what it means to lead, to create something bigger than yourself, and to give back to the very stage that raised you.

Today, I stand here as the Secretary-General of the 7th Edition of MLRITMUN. It’s surreal. A complete circle. From being the nervous kid clutching his placard in the last row to being the one signing this letter, inviting you to step into this arena.

But this letter isn’t about me.
It’s about you.

If this is your first conference, you’ll feel lost at times. You’ll feel outnumbered, outpaced, maybe even outsmarted. But remember this: everyone starts where you are right now. Every award-winning delegate, every Executive Board member, every Secretary-General, we all began as that nervous first-timer with trembling hands and a heart that refused to slow down.

“Winners don’t make excuses when the other side plays the game.”

Don’t just show up. Make yourself impossible to ignore.
Don’t just speak. Make them listen.
Don’t wait for your chance. Take it.

Because MLRITMUN isn’t just a conference. It’s an experience, a stage that has shaped leaders, built thinkers, and created friendships that last a lifetime. And now, it’s your turn.

So, step into that committee room. Own your seat. Own your voice. Own your journey.

I’ll see you on the other side of the gavel.

Deputy Secretary General
Excellence in Diplomacy

"Leadership isn't always about standing at the front -- sometimes it begins behind the scenes, understanding what it takes to build something that matters.

Last year, as part of the Organising Committee for the sixth edition of MLRIT MUN, I have seen how every detail, every plan, every challenge and every moment shapes the experience delegates carry with them long after the closing ceremony.

This year, stepping into the role of Deputy Secretary General, I carry forward that same commitment — not just to structure or execution, but to purpose. MUN, at its best, is a platform that sharpens minds and amplifies voices.

Let this be the edition where ideas turn into impact, and voices become solutions.

- R. Mahitha Reddy, Deputy Secretary General, MLRIT MUN 2025
